The Twelve Months

The Twelve Months

January brings the snow

Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,

Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes, loud and shrill,

To stir the dancing daffodils.

April brings the primrose sweet,

Scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs

Skipping by their fleecy dams.

June brings tulips,lilies, roses,

Fills the children’s hands with poises.

Hot July brings cooling showers,

Apricots and gillyflowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn;

Then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit;

Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Fresh October brings the pheasant;

Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast;

Then the leaves are whirling fast.

Chill December brings the sleet,

Blazing Fire, and Christmas treat.

Land of the sun caressed, pearl of the orient seas, our Eden lost! – Jose P. Rizal

Ah the land that gave us birth, like a mother, and from her alone came the pleasant rays like the sun’s that  warmed the benumbed body. – Andres Bonifacio

Do we know who our ancestors are?  Do we know their beliefs and customs, their ideals and aspiration?

Why should we look back to our roots?  Roots are important.  A tree can become big and healthy only if its roots are strong so, it is with us people.  We can grow strong, healthy and responsible citizens only if we trace our roots, see the strengths and weaknesses of those roots, then build up ourselves based on that knowledge.

Knowing our national roots helps us in developing our national identity, sustaining pride in our national heritage, and reinforcing our love for our country.  More importantly, knowing our roots give us insights in directing our lives.

These  things are lovely,and God made them so;

These little white sampaguitas wet with dew;

The graceful sway of grass,folk-dancing on the lea;

The green of narra leaves;the blue of sky  and sea;

The lacy waterfalls and rainbows in the sun;

The Master’s canvas in the west when day is done;

My humble nipa hut beneath the swaying palms

Listening to the breezes lilting pagan psalms;

The moonbeams on the bay;each little bird that sing;

Dalagas on the lane;the color summer brings…

These things are lovely,and God made them so,

And place them in my country-row on row.

I’m glad I’m too poor to leave my shore

And miss this loveliness outside my cottage door.

The shell does not worry about the far future … Idly, not sobbing, not scurrying, resigned to the march of nature, without anguish, quietly drifting.   – Takahashi Shinkichi

Beautiful you rise upon the horizon of heaven, living sun, you have existed since the beginning of things…. the whole world is filled with your loveliness.-Pharaoh Akhenaton

God so loves the world that He surrounds us with an over abundance of nature.  We have the opportunities to look around and enjoy the beauty of nature and delight in what  it has offer – the sun scattering over the earth its gold and silvery rays, the butterflies of a hundred hues fluttering everywhere, the unrestrained concert of rustling leaves, the smell of wet, wild earth bringing new life, the sweet song of birds floating in the air, and the riotous blooming wild flowers.

We have to appreciate nature and commune the Divine Creator.  Our life will be worth living if we can explore the gifts of God and to have a lifetime relationship with nature, we have to save,protect and support it.

We have to be a productive learner, so, lift ourselves to God.  Be always a steward of Nature.

Nature is but a name for an effect whose cause is God. – Cowper
